1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Of all the subject matter of poems, prose, or song, the topic of love far exceeds them all. With this emphasis on love through the centuries, why do we know so little about it? We still confuse love with lust and infatuation.

Right in the middle of his teaching on spiritual gifts, Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write what is probably the most beautiful description of love ever penned. It is noteworthy that love is a dominant theme in every major passage dealing with spiritual gifts.

Love is an aroma in which gifts are exercised, or what you do is not nearly as important as how you do it. There are three superiorities of love in 1 Corinthians 13 that make it "a more excellent way."

1. The superioritiy of love's preeminence makes it a more excellent way, vv. 1-3.

2. The superiority of love's perfection makes it a more excellent way, vv. 4-7.

3. The superiority of love's permanence makes it a more excellent way, vv. 8-13.
