Matthew 28:1-10
REJOICE! HE HAS RISEN!

What did Jesus shout when He awoke from the dead on that first Easter morning? While there is no way to know what was said between Jesus and His Heavenly Father, we do know what He said to His followers. In Matthew 28:9 the New King James Version reads, “And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying ‘Rejoice!’ And they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.”  After the agony of the cross and gloom of the tomb, and now the glory of the resurrection, could there have been a more appropriate word uttered by the Lord? Rejoice is the  word of the day for Easter!

In Matthew 28 we find not only the record of the first Easter word, “Rejoice,” but tucked in the context of the passage we discover three reasons for resurrection rejoicing.

  • We rejoice because of what the resurrection declares to us, vv. 5-6.
  • We rejoice because of what the resurrection demonstrates to us, v. 6.
  • We rejoice because of what the resurrection demands of us, vv. 6-7.

What is your word of the day this Easter?
