1 Peter 1:3-5

There is a phrase that appears three times in the New Testament. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!” This phrase appears in the book of 2 Corinthians chapter 1, verses 3-4 in relation to God being the God of all comfort. In Ephesians 1:3 it appears in connection to God having blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. In the passage before us today this phrase is used to praise Him Who has caused us to be born again. The people to whom Peter wrote were being persecuted for their faith. When ill-treated, slandered, or ostracized, the One to look to is God our Savior. There are three facets of salvation to which Peter directs our praise.

Praise to the Author of our salvation.

Praise for the aspects of our salvation.

Praise for the assurance of our salvation.

We must live our lives based on faith, not feeling. The place where faith begins is in God our Savior.
