John 1:38-51

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus gave to the church what has been called The Great Commission. The one command in these verses is “make disciples.” A disciple is a follower. What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus? What should we be making? You cannot reproduce that which you are not.

So, what does a follower of Jesus look like? In John 1:19-51 there are six characteristics of the early followers of Jesus that are essential qualities of discipleship. We have seen two of them already (in Part 1):
1. The discovery of a follower of Jesus—identifying your spiritual purpose, vv. 19-34.
2. The dedication of a follower of Jesus—switching allegiance from the good to The Best, vv. 35-37.

Today we will look at another:
3. The devotion of a follower of Jesus—spending time with Him, vv. 38-39.

“Are the things you are living for worth Christ dying for?”
