Jeremiah 17:5-8

In 1956 Congress adopted “In God We Trust” as the national motto of our country. Are these just words stamped on our currency, or do they express “a principle, goal, or ideal” as the word motto is defined in the dictionary?

Sadly, America is sliding down the same slippery slope that resulted in Israel’s demise and captivity over 2,600 years ago. God sent the prophet Jeremiah to Israel to remind them of the proper object of their trust.

In chapter 17, Jeremiah drew a sharp contrast between two kinds of trust: the trust that is cursed and the trust that is blessed.

1.  The trust that is cursed, vv. 5-6.
2.  The trust that is blessed, vv. 7-8

In what or in whom does your trust rest? A God-centered trust begins by trusting Him for salvation.
