Matthew 22:34-40; Deuteronomy 6:4-9

After Jesus rode into Jerusalem in what we now call the Triumphal Entry, He was pummeled with questions by the leaders trying to discredit Him in the eyes of the people. One question related to which one of the 613 laws was most important. Jesus gave the answer in Matthew 22:37-38, “. . .You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.”

As believers striving to “Live By The Book” this commandment should be of highest priority to us. God did not issue this command in a vacuum. The context for it occurs in Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

1. Think about God correctly, v. 4.

2. Respond to God completely, vv. 5-6.

3. Talk about God continually, vv. 7-9.

“Show me what you love and I will show you what you are.”
