Hallelujah for the Great Day of Prayer!

“I love the Lord because He grants us peace through life’s trials.”

“I love the Lord because He is our forgiver.”

“I love the Lord because He is faithful even when we are faithless.”

A young fellow strides down the aisle, craning his neck up to reach the mic, eager to chime in his own reason to praise God.

“I love the Lord because He died for our sins.”

“Hallelujah!” The congregation echoes, matched with sweet smiles at the participation of so many youngsters in the crowd.

The first Great Day of Prayer of the year triumphs as the people of River Cities gather in a state of honest fellowship and heart-felt worship amidst the worship center, ready to come before God and pray as one.

“Who will be next to praise God?” the invitation is extended. It doesn’t take long for dozens more to pop up in their seats or stroll down to the mic, each person characterized with a love of the Lord that cannot stand to sit and be silenced.

I love the Lord because He…
“is Almighty.”
“is Sovereign.”
“does not treat us as our sins deserve.”
“gave me an incredible wife who is patient and loving.”
“has given me a second chance to live a healthy Christian life.”
“is the Creator of all things.”
“is my best friend.”
“is faithful to His promises.”
“changed my eternal destiny when He saved me.”

Hallelujah!

Our reasons to praise God for who He is and what He has done are undoubtedly innumerable, proven by the many voices resounding beyond the walls of this church, and lifted high in prayer.

What a wonderful sight it was to see the worship center filled with people, young and old, gathered in bunches around the room; heads bowed, sharing varied requests with one another and presenting their hearts to the Lord. The room slipped into a regarding murmur as not a single person was left to pray alone.

Hallelujah!

The Great Day of Prayer on Jan. 7th certainly was a great day of prayer and a splendid way to kick off 2018. We are so thankful for the River Cities church family and look forward to the year with great hope and confidence in the unending grace and power of the Almighty God we are so blessed to serve.

Colossians 1:9-14
“9 We have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
