1 Corinthians 10:14-11:1

When I was in seminary, I drove a school bus. All drivers received training in defensive driving and when ready, took the commercial drivers test of the State of Tennessee. We were reminded constantly that the maximum allowed speed for a school bus mandated by state law was 55 mph. So the school system took us reasonably mature, responsible, trained, knowledgeable adults and turned us loose driving buses for the children of Chattanooga. Right? Well, not exactly. The school system did one other thing. They put governors on the engines of the buses which made it impossible to drive over 55 mph!

Today's passage is the closing section of Paul's instruction which he began in chapter 8 regarding eating meat offered to idols. In these closing verses, he places three governors on our lives to limit our liberty.

Our liberty must be governed by where our participation might take us, 10:14-22.

Our liberty must be governed by whom our practice might affect, 10:23-30.

Our liberty must be governed by how our priorities should be reflected, 10:31-11:1.
